Kirlampudi turns into a fortress after Mudragada’s ultimatum

Kirlampudi turns into a fortress after Mudragada’s ultimatum:

  • B.V.S. BHASKAR
  • With former Minister and Kapu leader Mudragada Padmanabham setting Thursday morning 9 a.m. as deadline for the State government to include the community in the Backward Classes list and also release Rs.1,900 crore for their welfare, the police went into a tizzy deploying more than 5,000 special police in Prattipadu (Kirlampudi is located in it), Jaggampeta, and Tuni constituencies to see that no untoward incident repeats again.
Out of five companies of special police, two were deployed in Prattipadu alone and about 1,000 armed police were seen in bullet-proof jackets, helmets, and batons in hand.
The entire Kirlampudi village was cordoned off from Monday night after Mr. Padmanabham announced that he would sit in hunger strike in his house along with his wife on Thursday morning.
“I request all community people not to visit my house. If police arrest me and my wife, we are ready to go to jail and continue fast there. We will not compromise until the government issues a G.O. and releases the amount for the welfare of Kapus,” he said on Tuesday when former Minister Vatti Vasanta Kumar, Kothapeta MLA Chirla Jaggi Reddy and other leaders met him to extend their support.
According to Tuni Inspector of Police Appa Rao, they have already kept ready an FIR with about 250 names included in it, and the DSP will announce the list on Wednesday.
It is learnt that after the IFR in Visakhapatnam, the couple will be taken into custody.
